then]
Before Nationwide Realty Investors developed the 75-acre area
that comprises the Arena district, this region was home to a
closed Ohio penitentiary, parking lots and empty warehouses in
the 1990s. The revival of the Arena District and Nationwide
Arena is one of the largest privately-financed urban
redevelopment projects in the nation.

In addition to ample entertainment, office and retail spaces,
the Arena District has growing residential space. Several

To live in the Arena District is to have
Nationwide Arena,
home to the Columbus Blue Jackets (Ohio’s only NHL team) and the
AFL’s Columbus Destroyers;
The Arena Grand Theatre,
an eight-screen movie theatre; and the
Lifestyle Communities Pavilion,
an indoor/outdoor performance venue, at your fingertips.
For sports enthusiasts, the Dispatch Ice Haus, an ice rink
attached to Nationwide Arena, hosts team practices and offers
public skating, and The Arena District Athletic Club provides a
10,000 sq. ft. fitness facility.
Living in the downtown environment doesn’t mean residents give
up green all together. The Arena District has 15 acres of green
space managed by the city’s department of recreation and parks.
The Arena District is also the perfect area to host special
events in the city. When Cirque Du Soleil makes the occasional
stop in Columbus, they set up their brightly-colored blue and
yellow “tent city” in the Arena District.
Just a short walk away is the popular
North Market,
The Greater Columbus Convention Center and the
Short North.

In 2005, the annual Komen Columbus Race for the Cure, consisting
of a 5K run/walk, a one-mile fun walk and a survivor
celebration, returned to its roots downtown and raised more than
$1 million to fund local grants and national cancer research.
The Arena District hosts Taste of Boom during the tremendously
popular annual Red, White and Boom celebration in July. The
