Two years ago, Molly Pesich turned her love for
creative cuisine into a career when she bought
The Brown Bag
Deli in German Village.
Established in 1974, The Brown Bag Deli has
been a mainstay for German Village residents and visitors. “I
have been here just over two years,” Molly says. “I bought the
deli from a gentleman who ran it for 18 years and he bought it
from a couple that owned it for several years before that. It’s
been a part of the community for awhile.”
Before purchasing the Brown Bag Deli, Molly
worked in the restaurant business for a long time working nights
managing a couple of bars. But ultimately, Molly enjoys her day
job at this friendly deli where she can craft new, delicious
recipes for her customers.[hours]

[price range]
from $3.25 to $8.50
[atmosphere]
Laidback and eclectic, The Brown
Bag Deli is small but inviting with outdoor seating. “It’s a
neighborhood place where everyone knows each other,” Molly says.
[clientele]
A lot of neighborhood people eat
here. “On the weekends especially, people walking their dogs
down to the park will stop in,” Molly says. During the week they
do a large amount of catering for businesses downtown. The
proximity to downtown attracts many people from those businesses
who come to the deli for lunch.
[food]
Everything is homemade by Molly and
her staff of 7 employees. The menu changes as new recipe ideas
come to Molly, or as the seasons change. “That’s one thing I
enjoy about it, is to be able to use what’s fresh and available.
I’m a cookbook junkie. I probably have 100 cookbooks; it’s just
an obsession of mine. I check out the food network too. It’s
just fun, I try to have fun with it,” she says.
[sandwiches]
A favorite choice is the Village Addiction,
created shortly after Molly bought the deli. The Addiction
features turkey with homemade cranberry mayonnaise, havarti
cheese, grilled on sourdough bread that is delivered fresh every
morning.
[soups]
The Brown Bag Deli is known for
their delicious soups, two of the most popular being the Wild
Mushroom and the Tomato Sweet Pepper Basil soups.
[sides]
Customers can take home yummy sides
that include cole slaw, fruit salad with seasonal fruit,
macaroni salad, roasted red peppers and redskin potato salad.
