Many of the homes in Olde Towne East date back more than 175 years. Once one of Columbus' wealthiest neighborhoods, Olde Towne East, is behind the other neighborhood in that it is currently experiencing some hard times, however, with the resolve of the Olde Towne East Neighborhood Association and other groups, the area is enjoying a comeback through the restoration of many of the historic homes.

Even though it’s a little behind than the other urban areas in development, the rebirth that Olde Towne East is experiencing, is attracting more urban dwellers who are looking for an affordable area of town to call home.

Olde Towne East is a popular neighborhood for everyone from professionals and students to singles, couples and families, populated by both homeowners and renters. Whether you are looking for a fixer upper, or you want a fully restored home, Olde Towne East most likely has it.

The Olde Towne East Neighborhood Associations (OTENA) vision statement indicates where the neighborhood is going, “Olde Towne celebrates a community of diverse people of various talents, ethnic histories and abilities. We see a neighborhood where people walk safely, visit and take pride in their clean surroundings. We see thriving businesses, well-kept homes and apartments with proud residents.”

The OTENA has held the Olde Towne East Tour of Homes for more than 20 years in the spring. The tour begins at the Broad Street Presbyterian Church, where tour-goers can view the newly renovated church including a wall of exquisite Tiffany stained glass in the sanctuary. Other featured homes, gardens and businesses are in the active area between East Broad Street and Long Street, bound on the West by the stately Hamilton Park Avenue area and on the East by the grand Governors Place homes, including a historic theatre and art gallery.

In September, the Hot Times Community Music & Arts Festival hits Olde Towne East on Parsons Avenue. This annual independent festival is run solely by volunteers. The three-day event showcases local and nationally-known professional musicians, dancers, poets, visual and performance artists.
