[that was then]

This vibrant and diverse historic neighborhood was settled in the early 19th century on 1800 acres of refugee lands and soon grew into a growing industrial city with the arrival of German immigrants and soon after, immigrants from Ireland, Italy and Eastern Europe moved in to build homes in the area.

Businesses were built up around the Merion Village street car lines with stores, restaurants and other shops doing well in the area. Parsons Avenue was considered a kind of main street, while a great deal of commercial business also sprung up around the Fourth Street street car line.
[this is now]

Young professionals are attracted to this trendy area because of its convenient location to downtown and German Village, and because of the many parks, shops and restaurants close by. Despite new residents moving in, there are also many people who have roots that go back three and four generations.

The neighborhood is unique in that it has a community health center (originally known as the Columbus Community Hospital) that dates back to 1903 when it provided easy access to health care for local families.

Today Merion Village is an affordable, agreeable place to live with its aesthetically pleasing historic buildings, and the well-built, sturdy homes and apartments.

With its close proximity to German Village and Downtown, many residents love the area because it maintains a quaint neighborhood feel while providing an easy commute for those who work in the city.
[tradition]

Merion Village is proud of their beautiful gardens so in 1999, the Merion Village Association started the Merion Village Garden Tour held each July. The guided tour is free to the public and encompasses large, expansive gardens as well as smaller urban gardens.

Merion Village is working to promote healthy living by getting involved with the City of Columbus, in partnership with the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, to embrace the city-wide walking program, "Walking in the Neighborhood." The city wants all communities to establish walking clubs as a way to get healthy and meet your neighbors. Merion Village has established its neighborhood walking club and encourages everyone to get involved.
[what’s new]

Like many urban communities, Merion Village takes pride in their parks and through community volunteerism, Moeller Park (at the corner of Hanford and Bruck Streets) has been revitalized to become a safe place for picnicking, walking or just relaxing.

The Friends of Moeller Park annually plant flowers and trees and keep the park beautiful.
